HIV/AIDS Workshop Outline
Presented by Teressa Malevu
HIV/AIDS is most prevalent in adults in their productive prime. With prevalence rates over 20% in many sub-Saharan countries and with infections rising rapidly in many other regions, companies are increasingly finding that HIV/AIDS is affecting their operations. As a result, addressing HIV/AIDS in the workplace is becoming a priority for companies.
This workshop will offer delegates an opportunity to engage with the subject of HIV/AIDS in a participatory setting where open discussion is encouraged. it can be used as part of an HIV/AIDS response strategy within companies. Ideally a group size of 15 to 25 delegates is suitable – bigger groups require changes in the workshop structure.
The facilitation approach is based on participatory learning techniques. Group activities and personal reflection exercises are used to facilitate communication on the subject.
- Provide accurate information about HIV/AIDS so that delegates are able to make informed decisions regarding their reproductive health
- Challenge personal attitudes about HIV/AIDS and offer delegates an opportunity to measure how ‘at risk they are’
- Explore company strategy and policy regarding HIV/AIDS
